Important Things to Know for 2010-2011

  1. PN-GISD ISD Cafeteria plan year is September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. Supplemental benefit changes become effective October 1, 2010.


  2. Online enrollment for the 2010 plan year will begin May 10, 2010 and end on May 21, 2010. You must complete your online enrollment within this enrollment period.


  3. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA): The plan year for FSA Health and Dependent Care Reimbursement accounts is September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. Please plan your contributions carefully, as these accounts are Use it or Lose it!


  4. IMPORTANT: Effective beginning on January 1, 2011, over-the-counter medicines or drugs (e.g. Advil, Ibuprofen, cough syrup) are not eligible for reimbursement under an FSA, without a doctor’s prescription. Insulin is the only medicine that doesn’t require a prescription. Also supplies that you need for medical care (e.g. contact lens solutions, bandages for wounds, thermometers) will continue to be eligible for reimbursement.
    As such, upcoming enrollment in your employer’s flexible spending account should take into consideration as of 1/1/2011, over the counter items will no longer be reimbursable under the health FSA.

  5. Flex Cards: If you currently participate in the Medical Reimbursement accounts, the MGM Flex Cards are valid for 3 years, so keep your Flex card! If you already have the MGM Flex Card, it will be re-loaded with your new FSA election amount in the new plan year; you will not receive new cards. NEW! This year there is NO FEE ($1.50) for the flex card. You will receive one (1) card, but you can order a card for your spouse or dependent over the age of 18 for free. Replacement cost for a lost card will be $10.00


  6. Dental: PN-GISD pays for employee only cost of dental coverage for eligible employees! Employees may choose to add dependents to the dental plan at their own cost. Late enrollees (employees or their dependents) have a 6 month waiting period for basic services and a 12 month waiting period for major and Ortho services.


  7. Vision: Superior Vision will be your new Vision carrier effective 10/1/2010. For details, see the plan information by clicking on benefit highlights/vision.


  8. Disability: Pre-existing condition exclusions will apply for new coverage or increases in coverage. For details, see the plan brochure by clicking on benefit highlights/disability.


  9. Voluntary Term life: Employees enrolling in the plan as late entrants (adding plan or increasing benefit amounts) must complete evidence of insurability to be considered for coverage under this plan (a physical may be required).


  10. Identity Theft Protection: is being offered this year through ID Watchdog to employees and their families. For plan and rate information, click on benefits and forms/Identity Theft.


  11. Plan offerings to PN-GISD ISD employees include: Met Life Dental Plan, Superior Vision, Unum Educator Select Disability, Philadelphia American Cancer plan, 5 Star Group Term Life, 5 Star Individual Term Life (Family Protection Plan), ID Watchdog and Flexible Spending Accounts.
